Due to increased smartphone and dollar prices, purchasing smartphones has become challenging for many Pakistanis. To add to their woes, PTA’s taxation policy has compounded the issue, making it even more difficult for users to afford the latest smartphones. However, a recent development has brought some relief to smartphone buyers, as PTA certification tax can now be paid in installments.
The retail prices of smartphones are skyrocketing, with mid-range phones now costing over Rs 100,000 and flagships exceeding Rs 300,000. PTA approvals further add to the cost, making it almost impossible for the general public to buy the latest smartphones.
Bank Alfalah’s e-marketplace, Alfa Mall, has introduced a new payment system that allows installment payments for specific cellphones with PTA clearances. The eligible phones include the Samsung Galaxy S22, S22 Ultra, the iPhone 13, and the entire iPhone 14 series. The PTA charges for these phones range from Rs. 130,000 to Rs. 190,000, which can be paid off in 3 to 6 months with 0% markup.
To avail of this payment option, you need to select an installment plan and provide your CNIC number and phone’s IMEI code. However, it is important to note that the PTA clearance process may take 3-5 business days, and the retailer will confirm your approval via a confirmation call.
